Increase of speed in the drying process compared with traditional systems.
The ISVE ES and ESC series of dryers are particularly suitable for drying semi-finished products using various types of wood.
In order to achieve optimal results in the wood it is necessary to obtain and maintain a gradual and homogeneously heating of the wood.
This result is achieved using ES and ESC models thanks to a series of aluminium plates that spread the heat produced by the electric heating elements or the hot water that flows in the special coils.
The rational use of the thermal energy produced does not penalize the use of a valuable energy source such as electricity, instead it enhances its use thanks to the fully computerized management of the drying process (however, the connection to the normal hot water networks, if any, remains possible).
The reduced size compared with the productivity of these units allow a considerable saving in terms of space and an easy location within the company without having to carry oyt particular masonry or connection works.
The quality materials used in the construction of the autoclave, such as stainless steel and aluminium, guarantee durability against corrosion, while the choice of components from leading Italian and foreign companies allow the achievement of high reliability.
These characteristics, common to all ISVE dryers (ES Junior, ESC, ES), result in very high quality drying, short working times with reduced operating costs.

The strengths of the ES-ESC series
In the production of ESC series dryers, either mini dryers or ES dryers with vertical opening, ISVE has reached peaks of excellence, ensuring significantly higher drying times compared to traditional systems. In particular, the machines of this series have allowed to obtain important results that are of two kinds:
– higher speed of the drying process compared to traditional systems;
– lower operting costs;
– reduction of storage volumes of the drying material.
– maximum homogeinity of the final humidity;
– maximum reduction of cracking and torsion phenomena of the material;
– maintaining of the natural characteristics of the wood (colour, knots, etc.);
– elimination of xylophagans and other parasites.
Investing in the quality of a drying plant means investing in the quality of one’s wood.
How to choose which ES or ESC is the most suitable for one’s requirements
How to choose a vacuum dryer, but above all how to calculate its size according to one’s requirements?
The main parameters to be taken into consideration are the following:
- quantity in cubic meters of wood to be dried per unit of time;
- type of wood (pine, fir-wood, oak, etc.);
- thickness of semi-finished product in mm;
- initial humidity level.
From the graphic below, some informations about the drying times can be indicated on the basis of initial humidity level and of the thickness of the wood.
Collimating the initial humidity level of the semi-finished product with the thickness line and descending until it crosses the grey-white lines of the different wood species will determine the duration expressed in days of the drying process.
For example, assuming that we want to dry 50 m3 per month of oak having a 30% initial humidity and a thickness of 32 mm, on the basis of the graph the time needed would be not more than 3 days (final humidity 10%).
In the space of a month, considering the possibility that the plant will work automatically, it will be possible to carry out 10 drying cycles.
The net capacity of the autoclave will therefore be equal to: 50 m3 /month ÷ 10 monthly cycles = 5 m3.
From this result it is easy to see how the reduction in drying times allows to woek with dryers with small capacity compared to the volume of the dried material.
The advantages are clearly several and range from space saving to easier integration of the drying process into the company logistics.
Last but not least, the monolithic characteristics of ISVE dryers make them easily relocating following a possible reorganization of the company’s processing lines.
Drying and design quality are two important features of ISVE ES and ESC dryers , making them simple to use and easy to insert in the company production cycle.
Gradual and adjustable exertion of pressures even under maximum vacuum condition
Drying the wood without subjecting it to particular physical stress is a guarantee in terms of stability and durability. The constriction of the wood fibres in an abnormal way,subjecting the pile to great pressure forces can de inconvenient, especially for long pieces.
In this case the subsequent processing destabilizes the “forced” balance of the fibres by abnormally discharging the internal tensions with consequent breakages and distortions.
AIR-BAG PRESSING allows gradual and easily adjustable exertion of pressures even in maximum vacuum conditions. This technique is used for low thickness semi-finished products where the action of the pressure can avoid warping or even correct the surface curving of some pieces.
The basic pre-requisite for the use of this technique is the processing cycle of the dried semi-finished products, which must not involve subsequent removal of material.
- Air cushion with double cavity to transfer the atmospheric pressure to the wood pile inside the autoclave;
- Automatic inflation system during the vacuum phase;
- Possibility of adjusting the force of the action throughout all the drying cycle.
